One killed in Rajshahi gunfight

Staff Correspondent, Rajshahi: A man was killed in a gunfight with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Kashiadanga area of the city early Thursday.

The deceased was identified as Abul Hasan alias Hasan Ghatiyal, 45, son of Abdul Malek, hailed from Sonaikandi village of Paba upazila in Rajshahi.

RAB claimed that Abul Hasan was wanted in 16 cases including drugs, firearms, murder and robbery. He was also a top drug peddler in Rajshahi region.

RAB-5 deputy commander Major AM Ashraful Islam said that acting on a tip-off, a team of RAB-5 conducted a raid in the area around 01:0 am on Thursday. Meanwhile, sensing the presence of the elite force, the criminals opened fire on RAB members, prompting them to retaliate that triggered a gunfight, leaving Abul Hasan bullet injured.

Later, he was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.

A foreign made pistol, a magazine, three rounds of bullets, 147 bottles of phensedyl, a torch light, a towel, two sim cards and a mobile were seized from the spot.
