Hearing of Azhar-Kaisar appeals on June 18

Staff Correspondent: The appellate division of the Supreme Court has fixed June 18 to hold hearing on appeals filed by two convicted war criminals ATM Azharul Islam and Syed Md Kaisar.

A four-member apex court bench headed by Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order on Wednesday morning.

Advocate Khandakar Mahbub Alam moved for the Jamaat leader Azharul and Advocate Shishir Monir assisted him while Attorney General Mahbubey Alam stood for the state in court.

On December 30, 2014, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT)-1, sentenced Rangpur district Al-Badr commander ATM Azhar to death for his crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation.

On December 23 in 2014, International Crimes Tribunal-2 sentenced Kaisar to death along with 22 years in jail for his role as Rajakar commander and Shanti Committee member in Habiganj during the war.
