Staff Correspondent: After a five-day battle for her life, female student of a Feni Madrasa Nusrat Jahan Rafi has succumbed to her burn injuries at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on Wednesday night.
Nusrat, who was burnt allegedly after refusing to lift sexual abuse charges against Principal Sirajuddoula of the madrasa, died at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery around 9:30pm, said its chief Rayhana Awwal Sumi.
The victim, who suffered 75 percent burns to her body, was put on life support at the burn unit of the DMCH on Monday noon as her condition deteriorated.
Earlier, Nusrat had accused Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa Principal Sirajuddoula of sexually harassing her.
The principal was arrested on March 17 and subsequently suspended. A number of students pressed for his release while another group demanded his punishment.
The victim, a resident of Sonagazi Municipality in Feni, went to the local Sonagazi Islamia Senior Fazil Madrasa on April 6 to sit for Alim exams, equivalent to Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC).
Some students loyal to the principal called her to the roof and threatened her to withdraw the case. They set fire to her after pouring kerosene on her when she refused to withdraw the case.
Police and others rescued her after hearing her cry and took her to Sonagazi Upazila Health complex from where she was shifted to the Feni General Hospital before transferring to the DMCH.
