Truck plunges into ditch, 3 Rohingyas killed

Cox’s Bazar Correspondent: Three Rohingya people were killed and 15 others were injured as a mini-truck plunged into a roadside ditch at Baghgona area on Marine drive road of the district’s Teknaf upazila on Friday noon.

The deceased were known as Nur Mohammad, 35, Mohammad Zobayer, 35, and Mohammad Idris, 25.

Pradeep Kumar Das, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Teknaf Model Police Station, confirmed the news.

Rohingya man Nurul Islam who sustained injuries in the accident said, “All casualties of the mini-truck are of Rohingya. They all are residents of Balukhali Rohingya camp of Ukhia. They were moving to Teknaf on Eid refreshment. A total of 20 passengers were on the truck. The truck plunged into the roadside ditch at Baghgona as its driver lost control on the steering.”

Later, police men and locals rescued the casualties and took them to Teknaf Upazila Health Complex, he added.

Titu Chandrasheel, physician of the hospital’s emergency department, said, “They were taken there as dead. 15 injured are being given treatment. Some of them are on critical conditions.”

The bodies of the deceased were sent to Cox’Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy, OC Pradeep Kumar said.
