Country' first computer factory opened

Staff Correspondent: Walton group, the country's leading electrical, electronics and home appliances manufacturing and marketing company, has officially inaugurated an ultramodern computer factory at its Digi-Tech Industries at Chandra in Gazipur, emerging the country's first computer manufacturing workhouse.

Alongside, it added Bangladesh to the list of computer manufacturing countries after smartphone. It also ushered a new history for the country's IT manufacturing sector.

Post, Telecommunication and Information Technology minister Mustafa Jabbar and State Minister for Information and Communication Technology Junaid Ahmed Palak inaugurated the factory on Thursday.

SM Nurul Alam Rezvi, Vice-Chairman of Walton Group, welcomed the minister and the state minister when they reached Walton Digi-Tech Industries.

Walton Hi-Tech Industries Limited Chairman SM Shamsul Alam, Managing Director SM Ashraful Alam, Walton Digi-Tech Industries Ltd SM Rezaul Alam and Managing Director SM Monjurul Alam among others were present in the opening ceremony.

After the inauguration, the guests visited different production units of the factory.

According to sources, world's latest Japanese and German technology machineries were set up at the computer production unit of Walton Digi-Tech Industries where laptop and computer design development, research and development department, quality control division and testing lab have been developed.

Initially, the production target of the factory has been fixed for 60,000 units of laptop, 30,000 units of desktop and 30,000 units of monitor.

Walton will move forward in producing other computer accessories like pen drive, key-board and mouse gradually.

Walton is aiming to manufacture Intel's latest generation processor laptop and various models of Walton Desktop and Monitor with affordable cost.
